Pharmacy Technician- Training and Development

Position Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician – Training & Development supports the development of training programs and delivers comprehensive training programs for pharmacy technicians covering various aspects of pharmacy operations, including medication dispensing procedures, inventory management, sterile compounding process, federal and state regulatory compliance, and customer service.

Essential Duties & Functions:
Participate in the development of training materials, including presentations, manuals, and interactive modules, to effectively educate pharmacy technician trainees.
• Conduct training sessions for new hires, covering topics such as pharmacy laws and regulations, medication compounding techniques, medication safety protocols, standard operational procedures and customer service best practices.
• Provide ongoing support and guidance to pharmacy technician trainees, assisting them in mastering essential job skills and competencies.
•Assess trainee performance through observations, evaluations, and skills assessments, providing constructive feedback and coaching as needed. Provide regular feedback and assessment of trainee progress to leadership team.
• Collaborate with pharmacy management and staff to identify training needs and develop targeted learning initiatives to address areas for improvement.
• Stay informed about changes in pharmacy laws, regulations, and industry standards, updating training materials and curricula accordingly.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among pharmacy technician trainees, encouraging engagement and participation in educational opportunities.
• Design and develop detailed training manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sterile compounding
• Develop and administer annual competency assessment and validations for all pharmacy staff involved in non-sterile and sterile compounding
• Ensure all staff maintain competency and compliance with aseptic techniques and regulatory standards
• Serve as a mentor and role model for pharmacy technician trainees, embodying professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to excellence in pharmaceutical care.
• Maintain all aspects of employee documentation including competencies and performance in accordance with the regulatory standards.
• Participate in quality improvement projects.
• Coordinates scheduling and communication with student and residency programs with affiliated schools of pharmacy.
• Collaborate organization’s learning and development department to ensure appropriate HealthStream content is available and accessible, including slides and presentations for Pharmacy specific training, as well as necessary annual training/compliance modules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Training (minimum requirements): 
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential required.
• Valid license from the Board of Pharmacy of the State of Texas is required.
• Pharmacy Technician Sterile Compounding Certification is required.
• Must maintain First Aid /CPR throughout tenure in position.

Required Years of Experience (minimum requirements): 
Three (3) years of experience working as a pharmacy technician in a retail, hospital, or clinical setting is required.

Desirable Education and/or Experience
Previous experience in training and developing staff, with an understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
Computer experience – Windows, Microsoft Word & Excel
• Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and engaging manner.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency in using pharmacy management software and other technology tools for training purposes.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and ethical standards in pharmaceutical practice.
• Flexibility to adapt training approaches and materials to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of trainees.
